The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South has been honored with the Bronze League of Eagles Award.

According to a community announcement, the award is part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s League of Eagles organizational recognition program. It acknowledges local affiliate organizations whose boards of directors show strong engagement and commitment to their clubs...

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South recently inducted three new members into its Floor Hockey Hall of Fame, according to a community announcement.

Jim Abrego, Fred Martin and Adam Riendeau were honored during an induction ceremony and alumni game at the Taunton Clubhouse on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The trio were recognized for their contributions to the floor hockey community, having previously played in the club's floor hockey league.

Bristol County Savings Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded grants totaling $111,500 to nine non-profit organizations in the Taunton/Attleboro area.

The recipients were: Associates for Human Services ($20,000), Beta Community Partnerships Inc. ($15,000), Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South ($20,000), Newman YMCA ($10,000), Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen ($10,000), Sisters at Heart ($7,500), The Halcyon Center ($9,000), The Literacy Center ($10,000) and The South Coast LGBTQ+ Network ($10,000).

Grant recipients are US-based 501(c)(3) charitable entities at communities where Sensata has a presence, and grants support the Foundation’s priorities of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and strengthening local communities. The 2024-2025 grant recipients include longstanding partners such as Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South and STEMbassadors as well as 13 first-time grantees such as Community Servings and Accelerate4KIDS.

 Summit Energy celebrated its corporate anniversary today by formally announcing the donation of a 20kw solar system worth $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Metro South in Taunton, MA.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro South will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Bids for Kids Gala this Friday. Dybantsa doesn't have much downtime between games. A few hours before Thursday night's game, Dybantsa made a stop at the Boys and Girls Club on Warren Ave in Brockton to give away sneakers and T-shirts. He will do the same at the Boys and Girls Club on Talbot Avenue in Dorchester on Friday.

The Boys & Girls Club, Metro South, in Massachusetts, uses the containers to bring agriculture practices and appreciation for fresh foods to students and the local community. The afterschool club set up its first Freight Farms container at its Riverside location in March of 2021, and the second went live at its Brockton clubhouse in January 2022. The two containers were put in operation almost immediately once they arrived, says Derek W. Heim, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club, Metro South. Since these all-enclosed farms were deployed, he says, “we’ve grown a huge variety of crops.” 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South serves youth between the ages of 5-18 across Southeastern Massachusetts. The organization is comprised of four location, including the Brockton Clubhouse on Warren Avenue. Volunteers can become a mentor or lead specific activities, like art, music or homework. 

The Boys and Girls Club of Metro South’s annual Drive Fore Youth Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 28 at LeBaron Hills Country Club, 183 Rhode Island Road, Lakeville. This event is a fundraiser for the BGCMS, which serves nearly 2,500 children ages 5-18 from communities across Southeastern Mass. Summer is here, and kids are out of school, but for many in Massachusetts that's where a majority of their meals come from.

Every day between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., kids from across the region can come into the Boys and Girls Club in Taunton and receive a nutritious meal.

 A 12-year-old boy at the Brockton Clubhouse of the Metro South Boys and Girls Club is proud of his new creation. He made his own video game.

“We’re supposed to learn how to make a game, like how to code, and basically learn how to add textures,” said Derek Bryant who attends an after-school class at the Club. Thursday was the last class of six and when they got to show off their creations.

Brianna Rodrigues, 11 years old, is making her own video game. And she loves learning.

A recent golf fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro South raised a record $75,000. The fundraiser, which took place late August, was supported by nearly 40 sponsors. 

Almost 140 golfers participated in the scramble-style tournament. 

TAUNTON — Children who swim at the Boys & Girls Club pools in Taunton have a new accessory that goes way beyond fashion.

The young swimmers are now required to wear a drowning detection headband called WAVE, Boys & Girls Clubs Metro South CEO Derek Hiem said.

"It's a tool to help our lifeguards be successful," he said. "Drowning is a leading cause of death among young people that is largely preventable." 

On Tuesday, June 21st, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South (BGCMS) held its 2022 Golf Tournament in partnership with Shields Health Care Group at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA. 

The tournament is held each June in support of the organization’s mission to nurture strong minds, healthy bodies, and community spirit through youth-driven, high-impact programs in safe and fun environments.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South, based in Taunton, raised nearly $500,000 through its 2022 Bids for Kids Gala Auction held April 8 at the Putnam Club at Gillette Stadium.

The money was raised through sponsorships, silent and live auctions, and fund-a-cause. The auction was presented by SCU Credit Union, which has committed to serving as the event’s lead sponsor through 2025, and more than 40 additional sponsors also lent their generous support.

The Trooper Tamar Bucci Unity Basketball League honors the memory of the 34-year-old Massachusetts trooper killed in the line of duty when her cruiser was struck by an oil tanker while she was trying to help a driver on Interstate 93 in Stoneham last month.

It’s hard to tell who had the better time at the Boys and Girls Club of Metro South in Brockton on Tuesday: Patriots quarterback Mac Jones or the hundreds of kids that he was visiting.

In addition to his time, Jones also had a few special gifts. He handed out some footballs, and also presented the Boys and Girls Club with a check for $100,000.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South has a new hydroponic “Freight Farm” outside its Brockton Clubhouse.

On Jan. 6, 2022, the organization officially opened its Freight Farms Greenery hydroponic farm, which is inside a shipping container. Produce grown in the farm will be used to support the club’s Kids Café healthy meals program.

The Freight Farm was purchased with funds from a $115,000 grant awarded by Beth Israel Lahey Health’s Community Benefits Committee in 2021.

“The wellbeing of our kids is always a top priority. They’ve been through a lot over the past year and a half. COVID has taken its toll socially, emotionally, and academically. I’m committed to using ARPA funds to ensure children receive the support they need. I am grateful to the many wonderful organizations in Taunton that care for our children and I am thrilled to be able to partner with the Boys and Girls Club, Taunton YMCA, and Girls Inc. to address some of the mental health challenges faced by our Taunton youth,” O’Connell said in a press release.  

The City of Taunton has been allotted a total of $20,952,932 in federal funding as part of ARPA, although only one-half of that amount is immediately available. This funding comes with strict spending and reporting guidelines.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South has announced that Andrew Clemens and Alec Sicuranza were the winners of the annual Cornhole Tournament of Champions.

The tournament was held on Sept. 11 at Camp Riverside in Taunton, and the duo of Clemens and Sicuranza emerged victorious from a field of 48 teams.
