Janessa - Impact Story

Janessa is a member at the Taunton Clubhouse, where she has been enrolled in the licensed After-School Care program for two years now.  Everyday at the Club, she finishes her homework, spends time with her friends, eats dinner, and plays games like chess and manchala— something that she wouldn’t do at home.

“If I wasn’t at the Club, I would have never played board games,” says Janessa. “I don’t go on computers as much here than when I’m at home.”

Board games are far from the only thing that Janessa has taken from her time at the Club. Here, she says she’s learned from the staff to be kind and helpful.

At just 11 years old, Janessa already knows she wants to take those important lessons with her long after she leaves BGCMS. She wants to be a veterinarian or a teacher.

Why?

“I want to help, and always learn new things,” she said. “I could help animals, or people with learning issues, and make class fun. The staff members here make me want to be a teacher. Everything I do here could help me be a teacher.”

At BGCMS, we aim to inspire our members, raise expectations, and help them set long-term goals to channel their interests and talents into meaningful, rewarding careers. We know that education is the key for youth to unlock their full potential and as such, we work to instill a life-long love of learning in our members which will serve as the foundation for their future successes!
