Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South has embarked on a bold capital campaign to expand both our facilities and the reach of our mission to serve even more Brockton youth even better. In 2021 we secured the Eldon B. Keith Field located at 128 West Elm Street, adjacent to our existing Brockton Clubhouse. We are now engaged in an exciting revitalization of this site which includes the construction of our new Mary Murphy Shields Pre-Teen Clubhouse being intentionally designed to serve Club members ages 5-12. The new Pre-Teen Clubhouse will house a state-of-the-art EEC licensed school-age child care center in addition to becoming the new home of our traditional before and after-school enrichment programs. Our existing Brockton Clubhouse located at 233 Warren Avenue is being transformed into a dedicated Teen Clubhouse for youth ages 13-18.
The driving forces behind this campaign for expansion and improvement are (a) the dire need for additional space to meet the rising demand in the Brockton community for high-quality, accessible, affordable out-of-school-time care, and (b) the timely alignment of key resources and conditions, including willingness from the City of Brockton to form an innovative public-private partnership.
The construction of the new Pre-Teen Clubhouse on the present Keith Field site will allow us to serve more than 650 youth per day on our Brockton campus, more than doubling the current daily capacity! Additionally, BGCMS will construct a regulation size turf soccer field to be utilized by Club members and Brockton Public Schools, and for the benefit of the Brockton community-at-large.
